Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to run ScanRebel, keep prices useful, and protect the service.
- Account data: email address, account identifier, display/profile details you choose to provide, and authentication status.
- Beta signup data: email address, selected platform, signup source, timestamps, invite status, and optional details you choose to provide so we can manage Android and iOS beta access.
- Price contribution data: product barcode, product name, brand, size, category, price entries, sale or regular price type, store, region, timestamps, notes, votes, confirmations, edits, and moderation status.
- Location data: if you grant location permission, ScanRebel may use your current or recent device location to suggest nearby stores, compare local prices, and autofill your city/region. We do not use location for background tracking.
- Camera and photo data: ScanRebel uses the camera to scan barcodes, capture shelf tags, attach product photos, and process receipt or price evidence you choose to submit.
- Price-tag scanning and AI-assisted data: shelf-tag and receipt images may be processed with text recognition, including optical character recognition (OCR), to extract product names, prices, savings, expiry dates, and receipt lines. Extracted text, confidence signals, correction flags, and review samples may be stored to improve price entry quality and moderation.
- Shopping and app activity: carts, recent prices, saved trips, search activity, scan history, and app actions needed to provide features you use.
- Support and bug report data: contact details, platform, page or panel, bug descriptions, feedback, screenshots, and any other information you choose to send us.
- Technical data: device and browser metadata, app version, timestamps, IP/network information, diagnostics, crash reports, security signals, Firebase App Check signals, logs, and performance data.
- Advertising and consent data: where ads are shown, advertising partners may process identifiers, consent choices, device information, and ad performance data depending on your platform settings and consent choices.
How We Use Information
- Operate ScanRebel, authenticate users, and keep accounts, carts, scans, and price history working.
- Manage beta signups, invite access, platform availability, and beta-related messages.
- Show nearby stores, local price comparisons, and community price activity.
- Read barcodes, shelf tags, receipts, and product photos so price submissions are faster and more accurate.
- Use text recognition and AI-assisted review to suggest price fields, flag likely mistakes, improve parsing, and support moderation.
- Detect abuse, fraud, spam, and policy violations.
- Improve data quality, reliability, product performance, and launch operations.
- Respond to support requests and bug reports.
- Measure app performance, diagnose crashes, secure the service, and comply with legal obligations.
- Show ads or measure ad performance where advertising is enabled and permitted.
Public Price Data
ScanRebel works because shoppers contribute real shelf prices. Price submissions may be shown to other users with product details, barcode, store, region, price, timestamp, freshness indicators, confirmation signals, and related contribution context.
Do not submit sensitive personal information, faces, payment cards, addresses, phone numbers, or private documents in notes, photos, receipts, or support messages.
Location
Location is permission-based. You can use ScanRebel without granting location access, but nearby-store suggestions and local price context may be less accurate. You can change location permissions in your device or browser settings at any time.
ScanRebel may store the store, city, region, or other location context connected to a price submission so the price is useful to nearby shoppers. We do not build a background location history.
Camera, Photos, Price-Tag Scanning, and AI Assist
ScanRebel uses camera access for barcode scanning and shelf-tag capture. You may also choose photos from your library for product images, shelf tags, receipt checks, or support reports.
Text recognition, including OCR, may run on your device and may also be assisted by server-side processing when you submit or verify price evidence. AI-assisted features can help extract or verify sale price, regular price, savings, expiry date, product name, size, and receipt details.
Text recognition and AI outputs can be wrong. ScanRebel may ask you to review extracted fields before submitting, and we may use submitted images, extracted text, correction flags, and review samples to improve accuracy, moderation, and abuse detection.
Data Sharing
- Service providers: we use Firebase, Google Cloud, and related services for authentication, database, storage, hosting, cloud functions, app integrity, diagnostics, and crash reporting.
- Text-recognition, AI, and product-data services: we may use price-tag scanning, AI assistance, product lookup, or catalog services to process the images, barcodes, extracted text, and product details needed for ScanRebel features.
- Advertising and measurement providers: where ads are enabled, partners such as Google AdMob may process ad-related data according to your consent and platform settings.
- Legal compliance: we may disclose data when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
- Business changes: data may transfer if ScanRebel is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
We do not sell your price submissions or precise location data. Third-party services may process data for the purposes described above.
Data Retention
We retain account and contribution data for as long as needed to operate ScanRebel, maintain integrity of the dataset, manage beta access, enforce policies, improve text-recognition and AI quality, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations.
Because ScanRebel is a community price database, some contributed price records may remain after account deletion in anonymized or de-identified form so the public price history remains trustworthy. Photos, screenshots, text-recognition samples, logs, beta signup records, and support records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy.
Your Choices
- You can deny or revoke camera, photo, location, and tracking permissions in your device or browser settings.
- You can avoid submitting photos, notes, receipts, or support details that contain personal information.
- You can review and correct text-recognition-assisted fields before submitting price information.
- You can request access, correction, export, deletion, or related privacy help by emailing hello@scanrebel.app.
- You can use in-app account deletion where available.
- You can stop using the service at any time.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including Firebase security controls, authentication, access rules, and app integrity protections. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure.
International Processing
ScanRebel is built in Canada and may use service providers that process or store information in Canada, the United States, or other regions where those providers operate. Laws in those regions may allow access by local authorities in limited circumstances.
Children
ScanRebel is not intended for children under 13 years old. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
